A collaboration
between Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris may seem a little
strange to some, but the two music icons have shared a recording
studio on several occasions over the years - including a Chet
Atkins CD and a Hank Williams tribute album. Of course, Knopfler
has flirted with country music throughout his career - including his
early 90s side project The Notting Hillbillies. Meanwhile,
Harris has embraced rock influences in her recordings - most
notably on releases such as Wrecking Ball and Red Dirt
Girl.
For All The
Roadrunning, Knopfler and Harris have combined their talents
to record an entire CD's worth of new material. Grabbing
occasional opportunities in the studio over the past several
years, the result is an impressive blend of Knopfler's
songwriting and the duo's vocal talents. Of course, Knopfler's
guitar is also present - though a bit subdued for many Dire
Straits fans. If you're a fan of country rock or alt-country,
this one is definitely worth a listen.
