Review:

In 2003, Robin Ella Contreras released an intriguing collection of acoustic Americana music with her band entitled Robinella and the CC String Band. For her sophomore release, Robin Ella has compiled a new band, with a new name, and a new expanded sound. Now simply known as Robinella, her latest release incorporates significant jazz elements into her already established folk-bluegrass sound. Solace for the Lonely not only adopts jazz influences, it also features a broad array of instruments including keyboards, piano, drums and electric bass. Robin Ella's singing style also reflects this change in musical direction. This new and less conventional musical approach is an interesting mix of folk, jazz, bluegrass and even funk. As with any change in musical style, some Robinella fans will embrace the new influences while others will almost certainly scratch their heads at this release.  It's not bad, it's just not what you might expect.
