On March 7, 2006,
The Wood Brothers released their latest collection of acoustic
roots music entitled Ways Not To Lose. Consisting of
Oliver Wood on guitar and brother Chris Wood on upright bass,
The Wood Brothers music is a compelling blend of blues, folk and
bluegrass.
Chris Wood is
probably the better known of the Wood Brothers having served as
the bassist for Medeski Martin & Wood. However, Oliver
Wood is a talented musician in his own right. The duo's sound is
sparse featuring little more that Oliver's guitar and Chris'
bass. This scaled-down approach lets the music breath and
the songwriting shine through. This is a fun and entertaining
listen, especially for those who like acoustic Americana rooted
in both of the blues - blues and bluegrass.
