Dixie Chicks Are The Night's Big Winners

Bob Dylan has won the first ever Grammy Award bearing the name "Americana." Dylan's Modern Times received the award for Best Contemporary Folk / Americana album at the 49th Annual Grammy Award held in Los Angeles.  The re-named category was previously known simply as the Best Contemporary Folk Album category. Dylan also picked up an award for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance for "Someday Baby" from Modern Times.

Bruce Springsteen's We Shall Overcome - The Seeger Sessions received the award for Best Traditional Folk Album. Bryan Sutton and Doc Watson picked up an award for Best Country Instrumental Performance for "Whiskey Before Breakfast" from their collaboration entitled Not Too Far From The Tree.

The biggest winners of the night were The Dixie Chicks who picked up five Grammys for their 2006 release Taking The Long Way. The awards included Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Country Album, and Best Country Performance By a Duo or Group with Vocal.

Other notable winners included Ricky Scaggs and Kentucky Thunder's Instrumentals which won for Best Bluegrass Album and Irma Thomas's After The Rain which won for Best Contemporary Blues Album.
