Drive-By Truckers Part Ways With Jason Isbell

The Drive-By Truckers have announced that singer, songwriter and guitarist Jason Isbell is no longer a member of the band. According to an April 6 announcement posted on the band's website, Patterson Hood stated that the split was "extremely amicable" and "the result of a period of personal and artistic growth from all sides which has left us with differing dreams and goals."

On the same day, Isbell's MySpace page contained a brief message to fans. "I am not in the Drive By Truckers anymore. Go figure. I wish them luck. I will not answer questions about it." Isbell later added to the somewhat cryptic message, "I ask that you continue to support the Truckers (they are still friends of mine) and check out my solo band when we come around. . . If you have inquiries, I think Patterson's blog on the DBT page is answer enough. It's well put."

Isbell joined the Drive-By Truckers in 2001 and was an integral part of the band's subsequent releases including 2004's The Dirty South and 2006's A Blessing and a Curse.

Isbell has a solo CD scheduled for release on July 10 entitled Sirens of the Ditch. The CD will be available on New West Records.
