New Venues Slated for
Willie Nelson Concerts
Few would argue that New York
provides an alluring setting for a music festival. But some
might be surprised to find out that the city has been slated to host
this year's Farm Aid concert benefiting America's family farmers.
Billed as "Farm Aid 2007: A Homegrown Festival," the
day-long concert will be held on September 9 at Randall's Island in
New York.
The New York concert will feature many familiar artists, including
Nelson, John Mellencamp, Neil Young and Dave Matthews. The 22nd
annual festival will also place a spotlight on sustainable family
farming by featuring activities, foods and concessions derived from
organic farming techniques.
The
Farm Aid announcement came just days after Nelson announced that his
annual Fourth of July picnic will be held in the state of Washington
this year. This will mark the first time the concert has taken place
outside of Texas since Nelson founded the picnic in 1973. As
its name indicates, the event will take place on July 4 at the Gorge
Amphitheater in George, Washington. The lineup slated to appear
includes Son Volt, Drive-By Truckers, Amos Lee, and a reunited Old
97s.
